Fireboat Station No. 35

The new Fireboat Station No. 35 at Pier 22 ½ is a two-story, 14,837-square-foot facility located behind the existing historic Fire Station No. 35. The historic Fire Station No. 35 is a San Francisco landmark that will continue to house and deploy the fire engine. The new structure is built on top of a steel float anchored by four 48-inch diameter guide piles. This allows the new fireboat station to rise and fall with the natural tide of the Bay, king tides and projected sea level rise. The San Francisco Fire Department's three fireboats and rescue watercraft are moored at the new floating facility. Dilapidated Piers 22 ½ and 24 were demolished.
In December 2020, the new station made a meticulously planned overnight journey from Treasure Island to its permanent home at Pier 22½ south of the Ferry Building.
Funding for this project was provided by the Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response (ESER) bond, which passed with 79 percent approval of San Francisco voters in June 2014.
