Project Update
Construction crews on Oakdale Avenue Lighting Improvement Project have been making strides in our goal to complete the project on time. Crews have been working through late November and December demoing sidewalks, trenching, installing pole foundations and new light poles. Construction has been ongoing on segment one, between 3rd Street and Newhall Street, with crews starting work on segment two and three, from Lane Street to Mendell Street and Phelps Street to Newhall Street in late December. The Oakdale Lighting Improvement Project spans from Phelps Street to Lane Street and is expected to reach completion in Summer of 2025.
Project Description
This project was sparked from the Bayview Community Based Transportation Plan (Bayview CBTP) which included extensive outreach with significant amounts of stakeholder engagement. The Bayview CBTP engaged over 4,000 residents of the Bayview District during a 2-year planning period and worked in paid partnership with 5 community based organizations. The Bayview CBTP was officially adopted in 2020.
One of the highest-ranked community priorities in the Bayview Community Based Transportation Plan (Bayview CBTP) was improving lighting along Oakdale Avenue, which is a busy corridor in the neighborhood. This project is designed to replace over a dozen existing light fixtures and arms on existing streetlights and installation of several new streetlights. This project will make walking more inviting and safer along this important thoroughfare that connects the neighborhood.
This project was made possible in part by Proposition AA Vehicle Registration Fee dollars provided by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.
